In short this is the Angle of the North.  Or at least one “angle”.  See what I did there?   I can’t claim the iconic status of Anthony Gormley’s great big inspiring masterpiece and anything I might have to offer is certainly a whole lot less divine.  So who on earth do I think I am?

For more than thirty years I’ve been reporting news mostly from the North of England though occasionally from foreign locations including Afghanistan, Iraq, Jerusalem and Washington DC.  No matter where I’ve travelled I’ve always identified completely with the North of England.  It’s in my blood.  I was born here and apart from brief spells elsewhere it has always been my home.  Most of my career has been in broadcast news – either at the BBC or more recently at Sky News as North of England bureau chief. As my homepage says this site is all about news and views with a Northern accent.
